Resumen

FAGUNDES, Maria Anobes Bonet Grespan; CAREGNATO, Rita Catalina Aquino  y  SILVEIRA, Luiza Maria de Oliveira Braga. Psychological variables associated with bariatric surgery. Aletheia [online]. 2016, vol.49, n.2, pp.47-54. ISSN 1413-0394.

The present study aims to identify the psychological variables described in literature as associated to patients who undergo bariatric surgery. The method used was an integrative review, having as a source articles published from 2010 to 2015 in a research done through the Health Virtual Library - Psychology Brazil (BVS - Psi-Brasil) and the following databases: PePSIC, SciELO and LiLACS. The sample comprised 6 articles which indicate a reduction in psychiatric symptomatology after bariatric surgery, such as anxiety, depression and low self-esteem, reduction in the use of psychoactive substances and improvement in the life of obese patients. It is important to note the role of a psychological assessment in pre-operatory, since emotional instability compromises the patient adhesion to the treatment and such procedure can improve the indication of patients to surgery and reduce postoperative complications.

Palabras clave : Obesity; Psychological aspects; Bariatric surgery.
