ZILIO, Diego. Physicalism in philosophy of mind: definition, strategies and problems. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2010, vol.15, n.1, pp.217-240. ISSN 1806-5821.
The aim of this essay is to deal with the "body problem" of philosophy of mind. To do so, we will present an overview of the discussions concerning physicalism. It is possible to separate this work in three activities. The first activity is establishing the major theses that define physicalism. The second is explaining the two main strategies - reductionism and supervenience - responsible for ensuring the hegemony of physical world as the world defined by physics, emphasizing especially its principal problems. Finally, the third activity is presenting the inner problems involving the main theses that define physicalism. We hope that this analysis can serve as a basis for subsequent discussions concerning the "body", and, as such, it may also contribute to solving the problems of physicalism. © Cien.
