Abstract Starting from the discussion of the relations between television and collective memory, this work describes and analyses the show Retrospectiva de Fim de Ano, broadcasted by the Globo Television Network. The paper seeks to define the show as a peculiar mnemotechnic which, through expressive resources typical of the electronic media, rewrites the mediatic events, underlining their place in the social experience and making them memorable. For that, were analyzed ten programs between the years 1996 and 2005. The objective is not to define a mnemotechnique of the media or television, but the look at the memory technique of the program, trying to show the way it makes a electronic memory, shared by its viewers. The program shows the media events of theyear and, using narrative resources form television, give it again to the viewers. Following the way of the program, we try to know its unique technique of collective and electronic memory. © Cien. Cogn. 2011; Vol. 16 (1): 075-098.
