BOLSONI-SILVA, Alessandra Turini. Supervision in social skills and their role in promotion of this repertory in psychology trainees. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2009, vol.5, n.1, pp.18-32. ISSN 1808-5687.
The interest in studying students’ social interactions is justified because the entrance in the university requires new behaviors for academic and social life. In view of university students’ adaptation difficulty, it would be expected that universities help them in this sense, although few studies have been carried out concerning this issue. The supervisor of clinical psychology needs to offer his students social support that improves professional and social development in a way to stimulate independence, autonomy, and responsibility. This process contributes to larger success in intervention programs, and students’ satisfaction with the supervisor and the training. The objective of this paper is to compare (Tests Wilcoxon) social skills (IHS-Del Prette) of 39 psychology students before and after their supervised apprenticeship in social skills training. The majority of the sample consists of women and the results showed improvements in four of five appraised factors. Implications of these results are discussed with respect to social behaviors and mental health of university students.
