Motivating students to learn is one of the constant concerns of professionals who work in an educational context. Faced with a generation of young people who are using technology resources and applications, researchers have directed their studies to investigate the possible contributions of these technologies to the promotion and maintenance of student motivation to learn. The present study presents the main results obtained with researches that investigated students' motivation to learn using digital information and communication technologies (DICT) and makes considerations in light of the assumptions of the Theory of Self-Determination. It is hoped that the information provided in this study can broaden the knowledge of teachers, psychopedagogues and psychologists as to the issues that deal with students' motivation to study using DICTs.
