The aim of the present study was to investigate the Subjective Well-Being (BES) of elderly people living in an asylum and to identify differences related to sociodemographic characteristics. Participants were 40 elderly, aged between 68 and 90 years (M = 84.88; SD = 5.936; 72.5% women), resident in a private asylum in a city in the interior of São Paulo. A characterization questionnaire and the Subjective Well-Being Scale (SWBS) were the instruments used. The results indicated that the elderly who received visitors more frequently had higher levels of positive affect and satisfaction with life and less negative affects, which may indicate greater BES.. The results confirm the importance of maintaining family life in the lives of elderly asylum home residents.
