SILVA, José Vitor da et al. Meanings and motives for suicide in people with previous attempts. Psicol. Am. Lat. [online]. 2020, n.34, pp.245-254. ISSN 1870-350X.
Suicide is a theme that has been explored in recent decades, however, some gaps can be highlighted. One of them is that little is known about his motives and meanings for people, an aspect that makes the elaboration of interventions difficult. The aim of the present study was to know these meanings and motives in people with previous attempt. For data collection, a sociodemographic and health characterization questionnaire and a semi-structured interview script were used. Fifteen people with an average age of 30.2 years participated, mostly men. The results showed that the meanings of suicide were related to the "peak of the limit"; "End of everything"; "Stop it"; "End suffering"; "Escape"; "Act of despair"; "Temptation"; "Family breakdown"; "Get attention" and "Cowardice". Meanwhile, the main reasons were: "Losses"; "Can't stand it anymore"; "Despair"; "Escape"; "Health problems"; "Pregnancy"; "Alcoholism". These results demonstrated the complexity and multicausality of this phenomenon.
