AIDS is a global and very complex phenomenon, involving biological, psychological and social. From the discovery of the causative agent of AIDS, HIV, in the early 1980s, there was a rapid expansion throughout the world, primarily for large cities and later to the medium and small municipalities. Over the last three decades epidemiological profile has become quite diverse, according to each region. This study investigated the characteristics of the AIDS epidemic in the city of Irati, PR, in the period 1994-2012, taking into account aspects such as mode of transmission, age, proportion men/women, among others. An exploratory research, with descriptive bias by analyzing the records and data available at the Municipal epidemiology sector of Irati, PR. The analysis contributes to the identification of possible conditions related to specific vulnerabilities this context, contributing to the formulation of more contextualized interventions. Indicates the need for qualitative studies, they can deepen the understanding of vulnerability to AIDS in the context studied.
