The preparation made by the ICU staff to families visiting the patient answers questions and decreases anxiety. The aim of this paper was to evaluate the understanding of information on the ICU for family accompanied by the Psychology department of a general hospital. Attended by 40 family members of ICU patients divided into two groups (control and experimental). Before and after the visit was applied a questionnaire on knowledge of the visit and an inventory of anxiety. The first group received verbal explanations about the visit, and the second also attended an explanatory video on the subject. Data were analyzed by SPSS and pointed minimum degree of anxiety in most families and little difference in the number of hits between the groups. The conclusion is the importance of the information provided to the families and psychology team presence within the independent ICU video display.
