Resumen

PURPOSE: To characterize the findings of visual perception in students with learning disorders. METHOD: The study included 24 students aged 7 to 12 years old, of both genders, with middle socioeconomic level. The students were divided into two groups: Group I (GI) - composed by 12 students diagnosed with interdisciplinary learning disorders, 75% male and 25% female, Group II (GII) - composed by 12 students with good academic performance, paired according to gender and age with GI. All students were submitted to the Developmental Test of Visual Perception - DTVP-2, composed of eight subtests that measure visual-motor skills interrelated with different visual perceptual ones. The results were analyzed statistically using the Mann-Whitney test, to verify possible differences in test performance between groups. RESULTS: The results revealed a statistically significant difference between GI and GII, demonstrating that GI presented changes that indicate a deficit of visual-motor perception, even though spatial relations and figure ground skills are intact. CONCLUSION: The students of GI presented inferior performances in the skills of eye-hand coordination, position in space, copying, visual closure, visual-motor speed and form constancy in relation to the students of GII.
