This essay aims to reflect upon the education system of psychology professor preparation course considering the history and the role of psychology in Brazilian education. It suggests the hypothesis that applied psychology - among its critics - has withdrawn the interest of psychologists for its teaching practice in the basic education. The paper also describes how the praxis matter have been reconsidered in the most recent colloquies about the need of the professor's education in order to develop more critical and intellectually reflexive professionals. It proposes a critical retake of the interest by the psychology teaching in an educational system focused in the education against barbarity, considering that in subjective dimension as well: a psychological education is essential for a self- reflexive citizenship.
