The theme reading, in the sense of literacy, was approached from mediation and interpersonal relations. We set an objective to provide an input to the development of projects in early childhood education and elementary education conducive to the child, able to achieve by itself, the selection of the works of their interest and promote reading for pleasure reading. We present some concepts of the Socio-Historical Psychology in order to further examine the issue and highlight the importance of the family contribution to the development of the competence of the reader.
