Resumen

VASCONCELOS, Alice dos Santos  y  SOUZA, Sandra. Carl Rogers and Emmanuel Lévinas: ethical paths in the Person-Centered Approach. Rev. abordagem gestalt. [online]. 2021, vol.27, n.2, pp.189-201. ISSN 1809-6867.  https://doi.org/10.10.18065/2021v27n2.6.

The ethics of the philosopher Emmanuel Lévinas (1906-1995) has direct implications to psychology, especially in what concerns the status of the Other in relation to the Self, emphasizing the importance of this philosophy for psychotherapy. Among the various ways of doing psychotherapy, we high light the Person-Centered Approach (PCA), which has implications in interpersonal and social relations. However, the PCA ethical dimension often seems to go unnoticed. Thus, we at tempted to reflection possible implications of Lévinas' ethics for the approach, characterized by its openness to experience, respect for patient's autonomy and emphasis on the therapeutic relationship. It is concluded that the PCA evolves by thinking more broadly about the subject and that each clients an Other for the psychologist, also finding in the professional an Other. Group therapy is proposed as an environment conducive to alterity, in which psychotherapy also encounters the Infinite, transcends the dual relationship and evokes the Third, the primordial part of life, in its relationships. Finally, we question: in such a person-centered approach, would there be space for the alterity?
