Appropiation of space model (Pol, 1994, 2002) is the antecedent of present study. In this model conservation behavior is as a result of people-place linkage. Environmental behavior has been studied in several ways with the aim of promote it in the community and obtaining healthy environments. The objective of this study was to know the appropiation of space and the environmental protection in a periurban town. One hundred residents were asked about action-transformation, symbolic identification and proenvironemntal behaviors using an open response questionnaire. Water conservation and recycling were the conservation behaviors. Results showed that appropriation strategies were evident in social relations, place identity and habits and cultural traditions. Reducing the consumption and reuse were the actions more reported for water conservation while in the case of recycling, reducing the consumption and composting, were the correspondent actions. Conclusion was in the sense that place identity is associated with environmental issues.
