SILVEIRA, Talita de Alencar; SILVA JUNIOR, Edivan Gonçalves da  y  EULALIO, Maria do Carmo. Hope and quality of life in elderly people. Rev. Psicol. Saúde [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.1, pp.201-214. ISSN 2177-093X.  https://doi.org/10.20435/pssa.v14i1.1338.

INTRODUCTION: Cross-sectional study, which aimed to assess the quality of life (QOL) and the feeling of hope, and analyze the correlation between these constructs with demographic data. METHODS: The sample was composed of 508 elderly, of both genders. The following instruments were used: demographic questionnaire, Herth Hope Scale, and WHOQOL-bref. Age ranged from 60 to 92 years (M=71.16; SD=5.95). RESULTS: The overall average of QOL and hope were 66.03 (SD=19.8) and 38.6 (SD=4.5), respectively. There were no statistically significant differences between the means of QOL and hope regarding the gender variable. Positive and statistically significant correlations were found between all the domains of QOL and the hope score. The model formed with the studied variables explained 22.5% of the hope variation, with emphasis on the psychological factor of QOL. CONCLUSION: The relation between hope and quality of life needs greater attention in the field of research and interventions with the elderly.
