Resumen

CAMPOS, Suzana Oliveira; SCORSOLINI-COMIN, Fabio  y  SANTOS, Manoel Antônio dos. Changes of marital relationships in long-term marriages. Psicol. clin. [online]. 2017, vol.29, n.1, pp.69-89. ISSN 0103-5665.

The experience of passage of the couple by the different stages of the life cycle imply changes in individuality and conjugality. The aim of this study was to understand the major transformations in marriage perceived over time for spouses engaged in long-term marriage. Twenty-five couples were interviewed. Participants were aged 64.1 years old, on average, and they had been engaged on marriage for 39.5 years, on average. Through the content analysis, from the perspective of Positive Psychology, the transformations were organized into three categories: (a) sexuality and intimacy; (b) autonomy and remoteness; (c) learning with the partner. It has been found that the limitations arising due to advancing age, maturational processes and illness are possibilities that promote a reinterpretation about the sexual desire and facilitate the expression of feelings of closeness and experiences of reframing the affection, companionship and the presence of other. Acceptance of these changes as part of the personal and couple maturational process seems to be a common thread in long-term marriages. These findings should be incorporated into psychological interventions with these couples.

Palabras clave : conjugality; long-term marriage; Positive Psychology.
