Resumen

UNGAR, Virginia. Transference in its clinical perspective. J. psicanal. [online]. 2008, vol.41, n.75, pp.243-258. ISSN 0103-5835.

The article considers transference to be an essential concept for the psychoanalytic method; indeed its most distinctive trait. Transference is at the same time a central category in the theory and a fundamental tool in the clinical practice of psychoanalysis. Moreover, the notion of transference and the use that each analyst confers on it in his clinical practice will go on to determine his very way of working. The paper takes a brief look through Freud’s essential ideas on the subject and then moves on to deal with those of Melanie Klein and postkleinian authors. Space is also given over to contemporary discussions on the issue, especially concerning Argentine authors. Starting form Kleinian and postkleinian ideas, transference is, therefore, closer to externalization in a new object, the analyst, of the same kind of relationship established with the introjected objects and has a presence and a concreteness, in the here and now of the psychoanalytic session. In this way, the Kleinian theoretical support for the transference concept encounters an obstacle in the idea of repetition in terms of the past. The hypothesis of the paper is that it is not the past that is repeated, but a present that has not been able to become past. As long as this linkage is not found, it will remain externalizing as a transferential repetition.

Palabras clave : Transference; Repetition; Externalization; Past; Memories.
