FRASSETTO, Silvana Soriano y BAKOS, Daniela Di Giorgio Schneider. Parenting styles and childrearing practices of parents of children with ADHD: a pilot study. Aletheia [online]. 2010, n.33, pp.6-17. ISSN 1413-0394.
Parenting styles and childrearing practices have been considered predictors of child development. This research aimed to conduct a pilot study to investigate and compare the parenting styles and childrearing practices of parents of children with ADHD combined type and inattentive. The participants were 10 parents and their children aged 9 to 12 years diagnosed with ADHD, who responded to Parenting Styles Inventory. The results show that there is no significant difference in parenting styles when comparing the two types of ADHD, but the inconsistent punishment is significantly greater in the perception of parents in managing children with ADHD combined type, compared to children with ADHD inattentive. Furthermore, within the group of ADHD combined type, the positive monitoring in the perception of parents is significantly higher when compared to what the children respond in relation to the father. This study contributes to preventive interventions and psychotherapy.
