In Bion's articles of the 1950's one can already identify methodological characteristics that together with the development of his later works will compose a way of approaching the psychoanalytic practice as well as the theory. His method will be in constant formulation and expanding process, and will never be presented as a set of rules exterior to the psychoanalytic practice and to the way of being a psychoanalyst. Its characteristics can be outlined in the article “On arrogance” (1957), through the clinical case presented. Besides the important theoretical comprehensions developed at that time, it is possible to bring to the foreground the way by which Bion reaches these ideas. The investigation presented here is based on concepts employed by his theory.
