MONTIEL, José Maria; BARTHOLOMEU, Daniel; MACHADO, Afonso Antonio  y  PESSOTTO, Fernando. Anxiety symptoms characterization in pacients with panic disorder. Bol. - Acad. Paul. Psicol. [online]. 2014, vol.34, n.86, pp.171-185. ISSN 1415-711X.

Patients with panic disorders at the beginning look for medical assistance in many specialties such as neurologists, cardiologists among others and are submitted to many procedures to try to minimize symptoms impact. This study aimed to characterize the most prevalent types of anxiety symptoms in patients with panic disorder and characterize the frequency of visits to medical specialties in order to characterize the response / cognitive processes in these patients. 20 individuals diagnosed with panic disorder according to the DSM-IV-TR TM (2002) criteria by a psychiatrist and a psychologist, were studied. We administered the BAI scale and a description of the main panic symptoms in these patients was made. We ascertain that cognitive distortions and fear of death are the most primordial characteristics. Ansiogenic symptoms make patients attend health services in different medical specialties, producing impairments in their life quality and general functioning. The confirmation and elucidation of these features are of great value to mitigate the psychological impairments of such symptomatology

Palabras clave : anxiety; panic disorder; BAI.
