Introduction: Cancer is characterized as the first cause of death due to disease in children and adolescents, requiring different interventions and therapeutics. Objective: To understand how the health team of the pediatric oncology sector of a Hospital-School in the city of Recife perceives the work performed with patients, children and adolescents, in palliative care. Method: This is a qualitative research carried out with twelve professionals of the institution, being the sample performed for convenience and saturation. Data were collected through sociodemographic questionnaires and individual semi-structured interviews, recorded in audio and subsequently submitted to the Content Analysis technique. Results and Discussion: Four thematic axes were organized: 1) Training and training in palliative care; 2) Feelings experienced by professionals; 3) Coping strategies in the face of palliation and 4) Difficulties experienced in the pediatric oncology ward. The results show that participants have an understanding of palliation but need to broaden their technical and emotional preparation to work with patients in palliative care. The study followed the guidelines of resolution 466/2012 of the National Health Council (CNS), having an ethical commitment to the participants.
