The aim of this study was to understand the processes of construction of the marital relationship and expectations about parenthood in same-sex couples. It has been interviewed four gay couples (four men and four women) who have been living together for four years, on average. Semi-structured interviews have been used and the technique of the life history has been also performed in an individual appliance. They have also been audio taped, fully and literally transcribed. The content analysis revealed three categories: marital relationship, family formation and expectations regarding the adoption by homosexual couples. The couples who have been interviewed founded and qualified their relationships based on feelings of: love, companionship, partnership, loyalty and fidelity. The couples have also claimed the desire to have children, recognizing the responsibility of such a choice. It is observed that these couples have given responsibility to the family as an institution that must take care, protect and encourage their participants, resulting the homosexual engage very much alike to the kind of arrangement of the traditional and heterosexual model. Despite the feature prejudice regarding homosexualities, they have shown interest in the current discussion on the rights of LGBT people.
