This paper aims to discuss the differences between therapeutic assessment proposals already published by Brazilian authors and those originating in the USA. Psychological assessment procedures that propose therapeutic goals throughout the process have been presented in Brazilian publications since the 1990s, but a more traditional manner of psychological assessment still prevails. Proposals for interventional psychodiagnosis are strongly linked to specific theoretical perspectives and are characterized by different practical procedures, distinct objectives and procedures postulated by Therapeutic Assessment, though their purposes are also achieve mutative results. Given their originality, theoretical neutrality and structured steps, which facilitate teaching and learning, Therapeutic Assessment can fill a gap in public services related to mental health in our country
