Resumen

CONDE, Renata de Lima  y  MASSIMI, Marina. Body, senses and choreographies: narrations of a festivity in 18th century Bahia. Psicol. rev. (Belo Horizonte) [online]. 2008, vol.14, n.1, pp.215-234. ISSN 1677-1168.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of choreography and its function of mobilizing the actors’ and spectators’ psychic dynamism, in two reports about festivities that took place in Salvador, Bahia State, in the 18th century. The study is based on the hypothesis that the agglutinating and integrating character of the festivity can be better understood if the corporative perception of sociability and the social relationships characteristic of that time are taken into consideration. Two documents were selected for the analysis. They describe the festivity that took place in Brazil, more specifically in Bahia, to celebrate Dom Pedro’s wedding. The first document, entitled Panegyric narration of the festivities with which Bahia celebrates the most happy wedding of Princess Our Lady and Serene Infante Dom Pedro, was found in the Rio de Janeiro National Library, and was elaborated by Father Manoel Cerqueira Torres in Bahia in 1760.
