Resumen

SILVA, Ana Carolina Santos et al. Lupus: effects on self-care and in familial relationships. Psicol. rev. (Belo Horizonte) [online]. 2013, vol.19, n.1, pp.30-42. ISSN 1677-1168.

A qualitative study was conducted in two outstanding general hospitals in the capital of Alagoas during the period January to July 2011. The study aimed to listen to the SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus) patients attending ambulatory care facilities about their knowledge of the disease, its day-to-day impact on familial relationships after the diagnosis. Twelve female patients were interviewed and their ages ranged from 16 to 55 years of age. An open interview was used in agreement with a script previously elaborated. All interviews were recorded and transcribed for manual analysis based on thematic content analysis. The results showed that lupus is a powerful disease for their patients and familiars; however, the disease is not always seen in a fully negative way. The knowledge is related to the educational level and their familial relationships which promote a good prognosis of the disease.

Palabras clave : Lupus; Familial relationships.
