SILVA, Karina Zaccaron da y STEIL, Andrea Valéria. From employee to employer: the decision to spinout on information technology. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.1, pp.51-63. ISSN 1984-7270. https://doi.org/10.26707/1984-7270/2022v23n205.
This article presents a retrospective interpretative study whose objective was to understand how cognitive factors influence the decision of information technology (IT) professionals to leave the organizations in which they worked to undertake, a phenomenon called spinout. Guided by the Theory of Planned Behavior (TCP), the thematic analysis of the interviews (n=7) indicated that the decision was influenced by favorable attitudes; supportive subjective norms; and perception of self-efficacy and control of opportunities and resources for the spinout. Dissatisfaction with the nature of the work, the supervision and the culture of the organization in which they worked enhanced the positive attitudes towards the spinout. The article also discusses how TCP can be useful in discussions about career and guidance of IT professionals.
