This paper follows the development of the concept of cure in the first period of Freud's work (up to 1912) and its relations to major changes in his theoretical studies and clinical practice. Thus, in defining what Freud thought about psychoanalytical cure and its specificities, it enables us to insert psychoanalyses in an important current debate on results and efficiency of different lines of psychotherapy and to compare Freud and other psychoanalytical authors who have derived but differed from him and his proposals for treatment.
