SOUZA, Daniel Cerdeira de; SILVA, Mateus Alves da  y  BEIRAS, Adriano. Intimate Partner Violence among Men in relationships with Men - Literature Review. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2022, vol.22, n.spe, pp.1709-1728.  Epub 27-Mayo-2024. ISSN 1808-4281.  https://doi.org/10.12957/epp.2022.71775.

The objective of this study was to analyze the literature on intimate partner violence in male to male relationships. This is an integrative review. We analyzed 66 articles published between 2012-2019 in English, Spanish and Portuguese in SCIELO, Virtual Health Library, Redalyc, Dialnet and in Portal Periódicos CAPES. The data obtained were analyzed in a descriptive way, based on the elaboration of an instrument called the “Protocol”. They also allowed the construction of four categories: 1) Masculinities; 2) Minority social stress; 3) The use of alcohol and other drugs; 4) Mechanisms used by the victim to deal with IPV, that demonstrated the main forms of intimate partner violence between male to male relationships, sociocultural factors related to them and the mechanisms that the victims used to deal with it. The minority social stress theory is accepted as a way of explaining intimate violence among male to male relationships and this is allied to gender categories that denote that the use of violence by men is acceptable. The main way to deal with violence reported in the literature was informal, through friends, showing a gap in public policies on the subject for non-heterosexual people.

Palabras clave : intimate partner violence; male to male relationships; minority stress..
