FIUZA, William Macedo  y  GODOY, Rossane Frizzo de. Early maladaptive schemas and women with driving fear. Rev. bras.ter. cogn. [online]. 2022, vol.18, n.2, pp.161-169.  Epub 24-Jun-2024. ISSN 1808-5687.  https://doi.org/10.5935/1808-5687.20220014.

This study aimed to investigate possible relation between early maladaptive schemas (EMSs) and driving fear in women.

Method:

a quantitative, explanatory-exploratory cross sectional data research. Participants: 176 women with National Driving License, from Caxias do Sul, with no physical restriction for driving, divided in two groups: 88 women with driving fear (group I) and 88 women without driving fear (group II). Instruments used: Sociodemographic Questionnaire, Driving Cognitions Questionnaire (DCQ) and Young Schema Questionnaire - Short Form (YSQ-S3).

Results:

group I presented less time with the National Driving License, an older age to get it, less frequency on the wheel and incidence in traffic accidents, although presented more physical damage. It was possible to identifiy statistically significant difference beetween groups in the schemas of abandonment, mistrust/abuse, emotional deprivation, social isolation/alienation, dependence/incompetence, insufficient self-control/self-discipline, subjugation, self-sacrifice and negativity, being higher in group I.

Conclusions:

women with driving fear presented higher schemas than women without driving fear. New studies that can evaluate the perceptions of women with driving fear are suggested, complementing the points discussed in this study.
