Resumen

GERHEIM, Marcia Souza  y  CASTRO, Fernando Gastal. Tensions of being a teacher in the private education sector. Arq. bras. psicol. [online]. 2018, vol.70, n.3, pp.35-50. ISSN 1809-5267.

This article analyses the tensions of being a teacher in private educational institutions. It uses Castro's and Gaulejac's notion of paradoxical injunction in order to think work activity, its meanings and the incompatibilities generated under the command of business-oriented management models. Its methodological reference is based on a field research of phenomenological and qualitative bias, seeking to understand the work situation as suggested by Alvim and Castro. The results reveal that being a teacher, in this context, is tensioned by the conflicts between the possible circumstances that give meaning to the work and the commercial demands that produce fret and conflict. We conclude by arguing that there is an aggravation of work malaise experiences, constituted by the paradoxical situation related to the activity of a teacher who has to be, at the same time and contradictorily, a commercial-flexible agent and a pedagogue-educator.

Palabras clave : Business management of education; Work malaise; Meaning of work; Teaching work.
