Resumen

COSTA, Camila Fornelli; SANTOS, Thaís Ferreira; SANTOS, Vanessa Silva  y  LIMA, Luís Antônio Gomes. Between the institution and the home: an odyssey with educators. Pesqui. prát. psicossociais [online]. 2018, vol.13, n.1, pp.1-15. ISSN 1809-8908.

Institutionalization can influence the psychological development of children and adolescents. It was sought to check the feelings and thoughts of the educators about the sheltered ones, the sense they give to their work and what they think about the role they play. These factors, by hypothesis, interfere with the treatment of children and adolescents. Nine educators were interviewed and their speeches were submitted to content analysis. The results showed that the educators consider the sheltering institutions as extension of the homes, as better material providers than the birth families, complain of the little contact that the children and adolescents maintain with the families of origin or adoptive parents and report that the organization of the work of the educators is reflected in the relation with the sheltered ones. It is concluded that institutional relations border family relationships, leading educators to a dilemma between professional distancing and affective approach in the contact with the sheltered ones.

Palabras clave : Sheltering institutions; Educators; Children and adolescents; Public policies.
