Resumen

BRITO, Hérica Landi de  y  SEIDL, Eliane Maria Fleury. People living with HIV/AIDS: study on religious coping, resilience, and quality of life. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2022, vol.15, n.1, pp.1-26. ISSN 1983-8220.  https://doi.org/10.36298/gerais202215e17446.

Studies show that resilience and coping strategies, especially in their religious and / or spiritual dimension, are factors that allow people with HIV/Aids to adapt to seropositivity and have a better quality of life (QoL). The study aimed to investigate predictors of QoL perception, considering sociodemographic, medical-clinic variables, religious coping strategies and resilience. Two hundred HIV-positive people (105 men) participated with a mean age of 39 years (SD = 10.9). The instruments were: Questionnaire on sociodemographic and clinical-medical aspects; Brief Scale of Religious Coping; Resilience Assessment Scale and WHOQOL-HIV Bref. In the multiple regression analysis, the predictors of QoL were: resilience (b= 0,29; p£ 0.001), schooling (b= 0,20; p£ 0,01) and negative religious coping (b= -0,22; p£ 0,001). The results confirmed the important role that religious coping and resilience can play in overcoming adversities related to HIV /Aids, with implications for professional practices in this area.
