The object of this work concerns to comprehend the position of the psychologist in the Núcleo de Apoio à Saúde da Família (NASF). For this purpose, we have systemed a bibliographic revision in order to provide a context to the emergence of the Sistema Único de Saúde and the creation of NASF, as a policy derived of the chances initiated on brazilian public health Field. The study contemplates as well a review of the challenges imposed to psychology professionals on their insertion in this field. Brazilian sanitary and psychiatric reforms are paradigmatic milestones of this insertion that made it possible for the psychologist to compose multidisciplinary teams. This insertion was increased with the creation of the NASF, which includes the psychologist among the possible professionals on its team, increasing the challenges of its praxis. Our findings reveal challenges imposed to the psychologist performance on public health field, the latter designs this professional as reference position in the NASF team, especially, in mental health care.
