Resumen

CUNHA, Vivian Fukumasu da et al. Religiosity/Spirituality in Nursing Practice: An Integrative Review. Rev. Psicol. Saúde [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.2, pp.131-150.  Epub 05-Jul-2024. ISSN 2177-093X.  https://doi.org/10.20435/pssa.v14i2.1287.

Introduction:

Although the religious/spiritual dimension is one of the cornerstones of health care, it has been raised doubts about the operationalization of this in professional practice.

Objective:

To understand how religiosity/spirituality (R/S) is present in professional nursing practice.

Method:

An integrative review of the scientific literature carried out in six databases/libraries in the health field, between the years 2008 to 2021.

Results and Discussions:

The corpus was composed of 21 studies, mostly qualitative studies (85,72%), with the first author from Brazil (57,15%). The R/S is present in nursing practice, so that some attitudes, dispositions, and behaviors seem indispensable for religious/spiritual care, and some contexts seem more conducive to such integration.

Conclusion:

The place that R/S occupies within Nursing is not yet consolidated with several open questions and ethical dilemmas. The need for studies that can offer evidence for the practice in terms of incorporating this dimension into health care is recommended.
