OLIVEIRA, Cleicione Rosa de; ALVARENGA, Patrícia  y  PAIXAO, Catiele. Repercussions of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases on the Socioemotional Development of Pediatric Patients. Rev. Psicol. This study aimed to describe the repercussions of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) symptoms on emotions, school life, and social interactions of pediatric patients. Twenty caregivers of children and adolescents between the ages 5 and 17 years and diagnosed with IBD participated in the study. They provided clinical and sociodemographic information and completed a questionnaire on the repercussions of IBD symptoms on the lives of children and adolescents. Analysis of absolute and relative frequencies and the adherence test revealed that symptom impacts were significantly greater on emotions when compared to impacts on school life and social interactions (X2 = 6.14; df= 2; p= 0.04). IBD treatment should include building therapeutic plans that are sensitive to the psychosocial needs of pediatric patients.

Palabras clave : inflammatory bowel diseases; psychological distress; academic performance; social interaction.
