GUIMARAES, Karla Francisca de Araújo  y  BRAMBATTI, Larissa Polejack. Becoming a Woman with Cancer: Repercussions of Breast Cancer on the Role of Woman. Rev. Psicol. Saúde [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.3, pp.147-162.  Epub 08-Jul-2024. ISSN 2177-093X.  https://doi.org/10.20435/pssa.v14i3.1947.

The development of women’s roles takes place in a procedural and multi-determined manner, as does the process of signifying and experiencing breast cancer. The main objective of this work is to understand the repercussions of breast cancer on the role of women within the population undergoing cancer treatment. For that, an exploratory prospective qualitative type study was carried out with theoretical-methodological photovoice orientation. The four participants were women undergoing cancer treatment at the UNACON/HUB, over 18 years of age and diagnosed with breast cancer (ICD: C50). Based on the application of thematic analysis, six themes were constructed: the relationship between body image and illness from breast cancer; maternity and cancer; aging and cancer; female labor and cancer; communication and social representation around cancer illness; and listen to the women! The results point to the relevance of offering comprehensive health care for women with breast cancer, centered on experiences and starring by them.

Palabras clave : women’s health; breast neoplasms; gender role.
