Resumen

XAVIER, Gabriella. A carnivorous society: thinking feeding and fetishism. Rev. Epos [online]. 2015, vol.6, n.1, pp.35-64. ISSN 2178-700X.

This paper seeks to think about the place of the meat in the feeding universe from its relations with elements of the constitutive dynamics of the capitalist social order. Through three approaches taken from bibliographic studies, it analyzes the social processes involved in the production and consumption of this form of feeding in the light of fundamental contradictions of a social order whose domain power over nature revealed itself as a progressive distancing between humanity and the natural world, based on the production value. It discusses the establishment of the modern form of relationship with animals, since the introduction of market dynamics in the centrality of social life; the disturbing processes caused by the industrial activity interposed to this relationship; and finally examines the primitive character of subjectivity molded at this path, not alluding to the permanence of the relationship kill to eat, but to the fetishistic projection arising from the mediation of the ritual of death, considering the civilization’s capability to refine it with their technical devices.

Palabras clave : feeding; meat production; fetishism; subjectivity.
