MESQUITA, Yukimi Mori  y  CORREA, Hevellyn Ciely da Silva. The "Toxic Masculinity" in Question: A Psychoanalytic Perspective. Rev. Subj. [online]. 2021, vol.21, n.1, pp.1-13. ISSN 2359-0769.  https://doi.org/10.5020/23590777.rs.v21i1.e10936.

The work developed aimed at investigating "toxic masculinity", a term that has gained prominence and is currently used to refer to violence and virility as characteristics that are typical of men. Its development consisted of extensive bibliographic research, which raised questions about the male in psychoanalysis, addressing the works of Freud and Lacan, and the possible relations with gender theories. Starting from a non-essentialist notion about masculinity, we raise the hypothesis that the idea of man or masculine in psychoanalysis can come from at least two perspectives: the first of these corresponds to the attempt to confirm the male countenance, in which violence appears as an attempt to repair the tear in the male face; the second, based on the notion of phallic enjoyment, which, when producing an "all-man" set, displays the contradictory attempts to unify this set, before which violence and virility are recognized as characteristics that maintain the illusion of unity. With this thought exercise, we consider this shedding light on the complex dynamics that condenses in the adjective "toxic" removes it from the insidious and inescapable character present in its use, allowing the formulation of other possible positions for the exercise of masculinity.

Palabras clave : toxic masculinity; genre; psychoanalysis.
