CREPALDI, Maria Aparecida y HACKBARTH, Irene Dranka. Psychological aspects of the hospitalized children in the pre-surgery situation. Temas psicol. [online]. 2002, vol.10, n.2, pp.99-111. ISSN 1413-389X.
This paper investigates feelings and behaviors that are presented by the hospitalized child in the moments previous to a surgery. Altrough the surgical procedure has as objective the patient's recovery, it acquires a threatening, invasive, and aggressive character. A surgery can interfere with the psychological development of the child in a very definitive way. The research was held in an Infantile Hospital, with 35 children between 5 and 7 years of age, and used three consecutive instruments for data collection: history, structured drawing and interview about the drawing. The results showed five thematic clusters: fear, guilt, escapism, sadness and distrust towards the staff. It may be concluded that the surgery evokes negative feelings by the child, as well as intentions of escaping from that situation. These results have practical implications for intervention programs aimed at child anxiety relieve and his/her development a integrity preservation
