Resumen

FIGUEIRA, Gabriel Loureiro; DUTRA, Douglas de Farias; PIRES, Pedro Paulo  y  DAMASIO, Bruno Figueiredo. Item Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS): Psychometric Properties of the Brazilian Version. Aval. psicol. [online]. 2019, vol.18, n.4, pp.411-418. ISSN 1677-0471.  https://doi.org/10.15689/ap.2019.1804.18789.09.

The Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS) was developed to measure the individual self-control spectrum, as a cognitive skill to actively alter one's own desires, behavior, emotions and thoughts. In the original validation, the BSCS displayed adequate psychometric properties for its unidimensional structure. However, this structure was difficult to replicate in subsequent studies. This study aimed to adapt and to assess evidence of validity of the measure for a Brazilian sample. The sample was composed of 405 individuals (61.2% women) with ages ranging from 18 to 46 years (M = 22.32 SD = 4.782). Exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory (CFA) factor analysis were conducted, and the adequacy of the model was assessed by means of model fit indexes. Only one model was found to be appropriate. The results are discussed based on recent scientific data and the relations between the scale and other instruments that evaluate diverse self-control measures (Delaying Gratification and Impulsivity).

Palabras clave : self-control; self-regulation; impulsivity; factor analysis; psychometrics.
