^lpt^aCom o intuito de demonstrar a articulação entre ideal, sujeito e cultura, empreendemos um trajeto pelos textos sociais e políticos de Freud. De Totem e tabu, escrito em 1913 a Moisés e o monoteísmo, publicado em 1939, recortamos destes trabalhos a posição do líder enquanto ideal para o sujeito e para a massa. O esforço de Freud em nos mostrar que o psiquismo é o palco vivo da cultura revela que o vínculo social, representado pela aliança entre os irmãos, só pode sustentar-se pela submissão ao líder, demonstrada através do processo de identificação como uma das exigências do ideal em sua função de emprestar alívio ao desamparo original.^len^aIn order to demonstrate the link between the individual, ideal and culture, we followed a path through Freud's social and political texts. From Totem and taboo, written in 1913, to Moses and the monotheism, published in 1939, we select from these projects the position of the leader as the ideal for the subject and for the mass. Freud's effort in showing us that the psyche is culture's living stage reveals that the social link, represented by the tie among brothers can only be sustained by the submission to the leader, demonstrated through the process of identification as one of the ideal requirements in its function of lending relief to the original helplessness.
