^lpt^aO artigo apresenta e discute a noção de ironia em várias de suas dimensões: senso comum, ironia literária, ironia como consciência dos limites da linguagem, ironia como atitude ante a existência. Nesta última vertente, situa sumariamente a noção de ironia romântica e a concepção de ironia de Richard Rorty. Em todas as dimensões, aponta possíveis relações com a psicanálise freudiana.^len^aThis paper presents and discusses the concept of irony in several of its dimensions: its popular use, literary irony, irony as awareness of the limits of language, and irony as an attitude in face of existence. The latter addresses the notion of romantic irony and the concept of irony in Richard Rorty. This paper points to possible connections between irony, in all these dimensions, and Freudian psychoanalysis.
