^lpt^aRESUMO Este texto adota a perspectiva dos estudos literários para examinar algumas das fontes literárias registradas por Wilfred Bion em sua autobiografia. Sugere-se aqui que a seleção de autores realizada por Bion revela uma leitura específica da tradição literária inglesa, que dá lugar central à proposta romântica e à sua crítica à vertente iluminista da modernidade. Argumenta-se, ainda, que o lugar de destaque ocupado pela poesia romântica dentro do cânone construído por Bion decorre de seu interesse nas estruturas alegóricas e metafóricas que caracterizam a dicção poética, em geral, e a dicção poética romântica, em particular.^len^aABSTRACT This paper adopts the standpoint of literary studies to examine some of the literary sources referred to by Wilfred Bion in his autobiography. It is argued that Bion's selection of authors points to a specific reading of the English literary tradition which puts center-stage the romantic poets and its critic of the enlightenment version of modernity. It is suggested that Bion's choices spring from his interest in the metaphorical and allegorical language characteristic of poetic diction, in general, and of romantic poets, in particular.
