From a reading of Vygotsky and his commentators, we discuss the convergences and departures between socio-historical psychology and psychoanalysis regarding the clinic of schizophrenia. In both cases, it is possible to perceive an emphasis on language phenomena and an opportunity for a non-medical clinical project, which is established from different perspectives in the exchange with classical psychopathology. In the socio-historical perspective, the emphasis is on cognitive aspects and consciousness; in psychoanalysis, in unconscious contents and sexuality. We question the materialization of these ideas in the practices of psychologists in mental health policy. The socio-historical psychologists emphasize the macro aspects of psychogenesis, which leads to an emphasis on interventions that immediately aim at promoting citizenship, strengthening the care network and changing the mindset about mental illness. In psychoanalysis, these goals are nuanced by taking into account the particulars of each person's social bonds. It is pointed out that, despite the differences, the dialogical development of a clinical work based on the aforementioned approaches may further the goals of psychiatric reform.
