The results of the Identity Style Inventory (ISI) among Costa Rican adolescentsboth males and females between 16 and 17 years old, and students of private and public highschools, are shown. The process includes the instrument's translation from English to Spanishusing the method of back translation, 2 focal groups, 4 in depth interviews, 2 pilot studies,and a final application of the instrument with a total participation of 427 students. Statisticalanalysis are done to examine the factorial structure, internal consistency and convergent anddiscriminant validity of the instrument. The results suggest better adaptation among studentsfrom the private high school and a structure, consistency and validity of the instrument thatmakes its use feasible in a similar research sample.
