^lpt^aEste trabalho visa a compreensão dos dinamismos psíquicos presentes em mulheres com câncer de mama e da atuação do psicólogo junto às mesmas. Inicialmente, discutimos as relações entre o corpo anatômico e o corpo erógeno, destacando o corpo psíquico como produto de um processo identificatório que, embora tendo o corpo biológico como seu substrato, não se reduz ao mesmo. A seguir, comentamos a importância desse conjunto de representações que forniam o corpo erógeno como forma de poder manejar as excitações provenientes do corpo somático. Na seqüência, abordamos a questão da morte e suas implicações, mostrando como o diagnóstico de câncer de mama leva mulheres a uma situação de desamparo, solidão, perda dos vínculos e a uma quebra de sentido, constituindo-se, assim, numa situação traumática para a qual não podem encontrar representantes.Concluímos o estudo evidenciando que a grande tarefa com que se deparam essas mulheres é a de construir uma vida na qual a possibilidade de morte esteja presente.^len^aThis paper aimed at the understanding of the psychic dynamics of women with breast cancer diagnosis and the psychologist's work with them. First, we role discussed the relationship between the anatomical and the erogenous body, highlighting the psychic body as the product of an identity process, which uses the biological body as its substratum but is not limited to it. After that, we showed the importance of the representations which constitute the erogenous body as a way of controling the excitements originated from the somatic body. Then we dealt with the death issue and its implication, showing how the breast cancer diagnosis results in a situation of helplesness, loneliness, loss of ties and disruption of meaning in the life of these women, leading to a traumatic situation to which they have no ability to represent.
