^lpt^aA presente pesquisa teve por objetivo geral avaliar instrumentos de medida da qualidade de vida para pacientes que desenvolveram câncer de cabeça e pescoço. Participaram da investigação 41 sujeitos entre 20 e 85 anos de idade, atendidos em uma instituição especializada em oncologiano Centro-Oeste. Foram aplicadas a Escala Análoga-Visual de Qualidade de Vida (Font & Costa Neto, 1999) e duas escalas da European Organization for Research and Treatment of Câncer - EORTC QOL-C30 e H&N-35 (versão 3.0). Os instrumentos possibilitaram a identificação de perdas na qualidade de vida da amostra, mostrando-se, portanto, adequados para avaliar as condições dessa clientela, visando a uma intervenção terapêutica e preventiva em oncologia. Foi possível constatar, também, que muitos pacientes têm uma percepção diferenciada das noções de saúde geral e qualidade de vida.^len^aThe general objective of the present study is to evaluate instruments which measure the quality of life of patients who have developed head and neck câncer. A total of 41 individuais, aged 20 to 85, participated in this study. Ali of them were patients of a specialized oncology institute in the Brazilian mid-west area, with diagnosis of oral tumors. At the time of their medicai consultation, patients were subjected to Quality of Life Visual Analogous Scale (Font & Costa Neto, 1999), as well as the scales EORTC QOL-C30 and H&N-35 (version 3.0) from the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Câncer. The instruments permitted the identification of losses in the quality of life of subjects, being, therefore, adequate tools to evaluate the general condition of the group, envisioning preventive and therapeutic intervention in oncology. In many patients, we could also verify that they had a differentiated perception between general health and quality of life.
