^lpt^aO objetivo deste artigo é discutir a sexualidade feminina para além das teorizações freudianas sobre o tema. Para tanto, buscamos inspiração nos poetas trágicos e analisamos o mito das Amazonas por meio da noção de pluralidade de gênero de Jean Laplanche, da sua Teoria da Sedução Generalizada. Este autor enfatiza que os contornos de gênero são estabelecidos a partir da tradução das mensagens enigmáticas plurais emitidas pelo adulto e pela cultura. Esse pensamento nos leva a supor que o mito das Amazonas põe em cena outra possibilidade de tradução do ser mulher, permitindo-nos pensar sobre as particularidades do processo de constituição de feminilidade e de gênero na nossa própria cultura.^len^aThe aim of this article is to discuss feminine sexuality beyond Freudian theories about the theme. To this end, we seek inspiration in Greek tragedy and analyze the myth of the Amazons through Jean Laplanche’s notion of plurality of gender, as introduced in his Theory of Generalized Seduction. This author emphasizes that the contours of gender are established upon the translation of the multiple enigmatic messages delivered by the adult and by culture. Upon this thought we understand that the myth of the Amazons takes to the stage another possibility of translating what it is to be a woman, allowing us to think about the particularities of the process of femininity and gender constitution in our own culture.
