^lpt^aA partir dos conceitos de migração e exílio, desenvolve-se uma análise sobre o processo migratório/exílio de Sigmund Freud. Abordam-se questões sobre a língua e a perda da língua materna. Foca-se nos percalços que aparecem frente à necessidade de fazer uso de uma língua estrangeira e na obrigação de abandono da língua materna, para conseguir comunicar-se no país de migração. O processo de luto pela perda da cultura, língua e terra de origem aparece como condição que habilita a possibilidade de elaboração da situação de migração. Diferencia-se a condição do migrante da condição do exilado.^len^aStarting with the concepts of migration and exile, the article does a review of the migratory process / exile of Sigmund Freud. It addresses topics concerning language and the loss of the mother tongue. It focuses on the obstacles that appear when people need to make use of a foreign language with the obligation to abandon the mother tongue, in order to be able to communicate in the country of migration's language. The grieving process for the loss of culture, language and country of origin appears as a condition that enables the possibility of developing and establishing the migration process. Differences are made between a migration process and the exile.
