Religious hybridism, or syncretism - as the mainstream of anthropological studies call it -, is a traditional presence in Brazilian literature. Since its beginnings as well in these days, our literature gives us a turmoil of heterogeneous religious elements. Our fiction may describe the fusion of Catholicism and Orisha cult, or else give a voice to the survival of Indian beliefs, amidst Christian practices learned from the missionaries.
